100 Wainwrights Completed

My challenge to take 'Selfies' on every Wainwright passes the 100 barrier!

This is an update to an earlier blog regarding my challenge to take 'Selfies' on every one of the 214 Wainwrights. I have been making good progress and have now passed the 100 barrier.

I am absolutely loving the challenge, which is exceeding all expectations. Brilliant views, great exercise, and getting to know the Lake District fells in a new way.

My 100th Wainwright was Low Pike (below), which is the last (or first) of the famous 'Fairfield Horseshoe' set of eight Wainwrights:

Low Pike

Many of the hikes have been solo ventures, however there have also been a quite a few with family and friends. This adds a different dimension to a hike as you can have a good natter, put the world to rights, and also share some great memories and experiences. In particular, a big thank you to my hiking buddy Mike, who has been a regular on many of the walks over the last few months and is now also hooked on Wainwright bagging, as well as becoming a budding photographer.

There has been some amazing weather during the walks to date which makes for interesting landscape photos along with the 'Selfies'. My favourite landscape photos will be included in my Lake District galleries on my website. A few examples of 'Selfies' are shown below:

High Stile, above Buttermere

Loft Crag, one of the Langdale Pikes

Grange Fell, Borrowdale

Clough Head, near Threlkeld

Causey Pike, Coledale Horseshoe

Bakestall, near Skiddaw

Times are challenging for all due to COVID-19 and as I write we are in lockdown, so further Wainwright bagging will have to wait for hopefully better times in the near future. I am lucky to be living so close to such a fantastic area, really appreciate all of the great experiences from this challenge so far, and look for to providing updates in the future. Only 114 to go!
