Sabi Sands & Kruger: South Africa Safari with big cats

Photo Galleries now available from a big cats safari to Kruger National Park and Sabi Sands Game Reserve, South Africa.

I have now prepared Galleries from a brilliant safari to Kruger National Park and Sabi Sands Game Reserve in South Africa, stopping at Blyde River Canyon on the way.

Safari Route (© Naturetrek)

The safari, called 'South Africa - Just Cats!', was organised by Naturetrek and our group was escorted by a fantastic expert guide called Casper. The focus of the trip was big cats, however this did not exclude viewing other animals and the abundant birdlife.

First stop on route was the stunning Blyde River Canyon. Amazing scenery!

The next four days were in Kruger National Park based in Skukuza then Satara. This period was a traditional safari where the safari vehicles have to stay on the park roads and tracks and viewing the animals and birds we were lucky enough to encounter. We saw a wide variety of wildlife, although cat viewing proved to be rather limited, the highlights being good sighting of a cheetah and a fleeting glimpse of an African wildcat on a night drive. Nevertheless each day had many excellent wildlife experiences.

From Kruger we headed to Sabi Sands Game Reserve for four days. The reserve is more exclusive than Kruger, with luxury accommodation. You also get to go off-road during game drives, and there is a strong focus on the big five and big cats. We had many memorable big cat experiences on this part of the safari, seeing several leopards (all of which had been named) and prides of lions. We also had some interesting night drives where I could practice some backlighting photography.

Overall it was an excellent safari with brilliant guides. The photos from the safari are in my Africa Gallery The photos are arranged in four sub-Galleries as follows (Please click on the title link to go to the individual Gallery):

Additionally, there are several landscape photographs from the trip in the Africa Safari Landscapes and Culture Gallery, along with photos from other African adventures.

I hope that you have found this Blog interesting and enjoy the photos.
